Chris joined Simpsons in 2006 after completing postgraduate studies in intellectual property law at Bond University. Chris works closely with Jules Munro and Adam Simpson. His work relates primarily to the music industry, but Chris also assists a number of the firm’s film and TV clients. He also has a particular interest in the computer games industry and works with some of Australia’s leading games developers.

Before becoming a lawyer, Chris completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts at Macquarie University focusing on arts management as well as music and performance. He enjoys participating in the arts as both a lawyer and as an accomplished performer.

As an entertainment lawyer with experience in the music industry, Chris is able to offer musicians, producers and music managers clear and cost effective legal advice relating to a variety of music contracts, such as management agreements, recording contracts, publishing agreements, master licences, co-writer agreements, performer releases, synch licences, producer agreements and distribution agreements.

Chris heads the firm’s special assistance program for music industry contracts (see Music Contract Assistance Program).

Chris is currently a director of the Aboriginal Benefits Foundation and an active member of the Communication, Entertainment and Technology Committee of the NSW Young Lawyers. Chris is chair of Simpsons’ philanthropic endeavours committee. Chris is also an organising member of the Law Ski Race Committee.

Chris has delivered presentations, papers and lectures relating to copyright, music and games for the College of Law, Bond University, the Australian Institute of Music and the Sydney Opera House and has participated in Framework for game developers.
