This special seminar focuses on recent legal developments and cases in copyright, trade mark and competition law with a particular focus on the media, arts and entertainment sectors. The seminar will cover:

  • the first cases lodged to block Australians from accessing pirate sites;
  • the Draft Exposure Bill proposing amendments to the Copyright Act;
  • the legal and commercial challenges posed by 3D printing;
  • challenging trade marks for non-use – the scope of the discretion;
  • cartel and anti-competitive conduct – lessons from the book publishing and music industries;
  • war stories from the front line – International art fraud cases.

About the presenters: Adam Simpson is the Managing Director of Simpsons Solicitors, one of Australia's leading intellectual property, media, entertainment and arts law firms. The firm acts for national and multinational corporations as well as state and federal government institutions

Ian McDonald has been a Special Counsel with Simpsons since April 2011. Prior to joining Simpsons, Ian was the principal of a boutique copyright law firm and before that worked for 17 years at the Australian Copyright Council

Brent Fisse has extensive experience in trade practices and competition law. He has acted for clients in a wide range of industries including information technology, telecommunications, music, sport, tourism, publishing and broadcasting. He has also acted for several regulatory agencies

Clare Young is a Senior Lawyer at Simpsons and has extensive experience in litigation involving patents, copyright, trade marks, confidential information and consumer protection gained over 15 years at major international law firms
