The Attorney General has announced a review of Australia's copyright enforcement regime. The review will focus on ensuring copyright enforcement in Australia remains fit for purpose as digital technology changes the way we consume copyright material.
While the Issues Paper has yet to be released, the announcement by the Attorney-General made specific reference to the issues faced by artists and the importance of royalties in supporting them (including during the COVID-19 pandemic). One might therefore surmise that the Issues Paper - and the review as a whole - will pay particular attention to these issues.
Simpsons will be keeping a close eye on the Issues Paper to be released by the Government in December 2022. The Issues Paper will be followed by a 12-week public consultation process. Watch this space for more information.
