Logos are usually protected by being registered as a trade mark but in some circumstances they may also be protected by copyright. In a case concerning Ugg boots, the Federal Court has held, among other things, that a logo was of sufficient complexity to attract copyright protection, being “plainly drawn with care, to obtain an effect” and that copyrights had indeed been infringed.
