Bio

Seb works closely with Director Adam Simpson and Special Counsel Clare Young in the Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property teams. He has been a key member of the team on some of Australia’s most high profile recent intellectual property and entertainment industry disputes.

He advises and has day-to-day care of a range of clients in both litigious and non-litigious matters regarding intellectual property, contract, defamation, confidential information and administrative law.

Prior to joining Simpsons, Seb worked in the intellectual property team of a national law firm and as associate to a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Representative Work

Assisting with Simpsons’ representation of prominent clients (including Netflix, Inc., Universal Music Publishing, Kobalt Music Publishing and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers) in major court and tribunal proceedings.

Representing the government agency Screen Australia in Administrative Appeals Tribunal proceedings relating to the producer tax offset.

Representing a film producer in defence of complex Supreme Court proceedings commenced by an overseas distributor.

Acting in Federal Court litigation regarding the Commonwealth’s seizure of an imported object under the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986.

Representing an Australian author and publisher in defence of copyright infringement proceedings brought by an individual.

Other Contributions

Seb has delivered seminars for the Law Society of NSW on copyright infringement issues.

Seb is also a regular provider of advice through the Arts Law Centre of Australia and has been awarded an Arts Law Pro Bono Award.
